K9 Sonny was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend an armed and wanted parolee who had kidnapped his ex-girlfriend.
Sonny was deployed after the subject fled from officers on foot. As Sonny got close the man pulled out a handgun and shot him twice, killing him. The man then surrendered and was subsequently sentenced to one year in jail.
