K9 Star was shot and killed in the 3600 block of East 56th Street while attempting to apprehend a subject wanted for shooting a police officer four months earlier.
Star had been deployed into the home to apprehend the subject when he was fatally shot. The man was shot and killed by officers a short time later.
Before becoming a police canine, K9 Star had started in the movie "K-9" with actor Jim Belushi.
