Marshal Painter was killed in an automobile accident on Route 30 while on patrol. Several witnesses reported Marshal Painter attempting to stop a speeding vehicle prior to the accident.
Marshal Painter held a dual role as a Columbiana County constable in addition to the being the Hanoverton Village marshal. He had served as a constable for over 15 years.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was survived by his wife, three daughters, two sons, and his father.
