Police Officer Jonas Aiken was shot and killed with his own service revolver while attempting to stop a man for beating his wife. The suspect was able to gain control of his service weapon and shot Officer Aiken in the back.
The suspect, age 35, was arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life. He died in prison on November 17, 1935.
Officer Aiken had served with the agency for only one month. He was survived by his wife, daughter, parents, and three brothers.
