Patrolman Joseph Pych was killed in an automobile crash while attempting to stop a speeding motorist on Route 5.
Another vehicle pulled out in front of his patrol car. He swerved in an attempt to miss the vehicle, causing his vehicle to strike a tree and overturn. His partner was injured but survived his injuries.
Patrolman Pych was a United States Navy veteran and had served with the Enfield Police Department for 18 months. He was survived by his wife and two children.
