Deputy Sheriff Ruben Carbajal was killed in a single-vehicle crash.

He was traveling down a road in his department's Ford Bronco when a pickup truck entered the roadway from a side road. Deputy Carbajal swerved to avoid hitting the pickup truck which caused the Bronco to flip over three times, ejecting him from the vehicle.

He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputy Carbajal had served with the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office for three years.

Ruben we shared a lot of laughs way before you became a Deputy. When you use to pick up the money from JCP when you were still with the armored truck company. Then running into you at the clubs I knew I was safe once I’d see you there. When you started with DASO you teased me about pulling me over lol I’d telling you that you’d have to catch me lol
But the day you died my heart broke and I still think of you especially when I go by the crash site. You are missed.
