Officer Jesse Ream was killed in a motorcycle crash while attempting to stop a traffic violator on Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach.
Another car made a U-turn at 36th Place and Ocean Boulevard, causing Officer Ream to collide with the vehicle. Another motor officer also hit the car, but did not suffer any injuries. Officer Ream was pronounced dead upon arrival at Seaside Hospital.
The driver was initially charged with manslaughter, but the charges were dropped.
Officer Jesse Ream was a United States Army WWII veteran and had served with the Long Beach Police Department for nine years. He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
