Deputy Charles Renfro was shot and killed while responding to a burglary call at a local lumber and hardware store. As he entered the building he was struck by three shotgun blasts. The suspects fled the scene and attempted to steal a car from a nearby processing plant the following day. One of the plant's managers shot and killed one of the suspects. The second suspect was arrested and charged with capital murder.
Deputy Renfro had been with the agency for 5 years and was survived by his wife and son. He is buried at Colorado City Cemetery in Colorado City, Texas.
