Deputy Sheriff Samuel Rouvier succumbed to injuries sustained after his vehicle struck a horse on Ohio 132, near Batavia, on April 27th, 1966.
He was conducting a murder investigation with a county prosecutor and following up on a lead when a horse ran into the path of their vehicle. The vehicle struck the horse, causing it to roll over the hood and windshield and into the front seat area. The horse landed on Deputy Rouvier, causing serious injuries that resulted in his death a month later.
Deputy Rouvier was survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents, and two sisters.
