Richard Scholz

Officer Richard Scholz was killed in an automobile crash at the corner of Divisadero Street and Bush Street.

Officer Scholz was responding to a call of a robbery shooting when his patrol car collided with another automobile at the intersection. Two other officers received minor injuries, and four civilians were injured. The call turned out to be an accidental firearm discharge.

Officer Scholz was a United States Army Air Forces World War II decorated pilot and had served with the San Francisco Police Department for 1 1/2 years. He was survived by his mother, father, sister, and niece.

On today, the 75th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army Air Forces as a Fighter Pilot in Europe fighting the Germans during World War II where you earned the Distinguished Service Cross(second highest award just below the Medal of Honor) and Distinguished Flying Cross Medals for bravery. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
