Henry C. Seaman

City Marshal Henry Seaman was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a woman who had shot at two men.

The woman, who operated a local brothel, got in an argument with the two men and shot at them. As Marshal Seaman attempted to arrest the woman one of the men shot him. Marshal Seaman was able to return and wound one of the suspects. The subjects were acquitted in July 1871.

He was a great great uncle to me. His family sacrificed several sons during the Civil War. I am very proud of the stand they took. The Seaman family was also part of the underground railroad. Such a terrible and ridiculous end for such a brave man. I am grateful for you!
