Officer Uriah Sears was stabbed to death by the brother of a man he had arrested the previous day near 4th Street and Elm Street.
The brother located Officers Sears in front of the city newspaper's office and stabbed him. Officer Sears succumbed to his wounds the following day.
The suspect was arrested in Carthage, Ohio, the next day. He was found guilty of Disorderly Conduct and sentenced to thirty days.
Officer Sears was a Civil War veteran. He was survived by his wife.
