Trooper Harold Anderson was shot and killed while he and another trooper investigated a suspicious vehicle on Grand River Road near Novi at 4 am.
As the two approached the vehicle, the suspect inside opened fire, striking Trooper Anderson in the chest. Both officers returned fire but did not strike the suspect, who was later apprehended.
Trooper Anderson was a United States Army Aviation Corps WWI veteran and served with the Michigan State Police for two years. He was survived by his parents and two brothers.
