Officer Ray Shinholser succumbed to injuries he received in a motorcycle crash while on his way to work.
A truck traveling in the opposite direction turned left in front of him, and he was thrown from his motorcycle. He was transported to University Hospital where he died from his injuries the next day.
The driver of the truck was cited for violating the right of way.
Officer Shinholser had served with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for over 11 years. He was survived by his wife, two children, parents, and three brothers, who also served in law enforcement.
