Leo Clinton Shonrock

Policeman Leo Shonrock was struck and killed by a vehicle, being pursued by state troopers, while manning a roadblock on a bridge.

A vehicle occupied by a family of five was approaching the roadblock when the suspect rearended them at a high rate of speed. The impact sent their car crashing into Policeman Shonrock's patrol car, as he was getting out, crushing him against the bridge. The gasoline tank exploded on the family car killing three. A state trooper suffered burns as he pulled the other two from the car.

The 22-year-old suspect was convicted of four counts of manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

On today, the 75th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army as a member of the 40th “Sunshine” Infantry Division during World War II.
