Marshal Sims was shot and killed by the son of a man he was attempting to arrest on a warrant at 3:30 pm.
Marshal Sims was walking to town with his six-year-old son when he came across a father and son he had warrants for. As Marshal Sims attempted to arrest them, the son leveled a rifle at him and fired, striking him in the neck. As Marshal Sims fell, he got off a shot, hitting the shooter in the stomach.
Marshal Sims died almost immediately, and the shooter died five days later.
Marshal Sims had served with the Maysville Police Department for 24 years. He was survived by his wife, three sons, and three daughters.
