Edward M. Sullivan

Detective Sergeant Edward Sullivan succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained three days earlier when he was shot while serving papers as the result of a domestic investigation.

When Sergeant Sullivan rang the doorbell, the suspect came to the door and opened fire without warning, striking him three times. Sergeant Sullivan's partner, who had been waiting in their car, immediately went to his aide but was shot in the chest. The suspect fled into the nearby woods and committed suicide.

His partner was forced to retire from the department as a result of his wounds.

Sergeant Sullivan had served with the Greenburgh Police Department for eight years. He was survived by his wife and five children.

I’ve heard the stories, as can only told by the Sullivan family, and I am proud to be your grandson, first born boy of your youngest son, Jack. As long as I have breath, I will regale others with the sacrifices you made, the heroism you displayed and the fight you courageously fought. Your story will continue for generations as it is as much my story. I hope to meet you one day in Glory I will finally get to hug my Grandpa.
