Constable William Tressler succumbed to gunshot wounds to the stomach and back sustained four days earlier when he was ambushed on Second Poole's Creek Road in Campbell County.
Two of the three suspects were later shot and killed by officers in Indiana. The third was taken into custody and sentenced to life.
Constable Tressler served more than 13 years in law enforcement, beginning as a Campbell County patrolman and later becoming a state police officer, deputy constable, and finally constable for the Ft. Thomas District. In January 1928 he was additionally sworn in as a Covington Prohibition Agent while still serving as constable.
He was survived by his wife and son, one brother and one sister. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, Campbell County, Kentucky.
