Detective James Troy was shot and killed while making an arrest at approximately 5:45 pm.

Detective Troy and two officers went to the home of a suspected burglar at 17 Dilworth Street in Boston. While the two officers went inside, Detective Troy was guarding the back alley when he was shot.

The suspect was arrested. He was convicted and died in prison.

Detective Troy had served with the Boston Police Department for nine years. He was survived by his expectant wife, a son, and three daughters. Less than a month later, his second son was born.
