Janice Marlene Vanderveer

Police Officer Janice Vanderveer was struck and killed by a vehicle while setting up road flares on Interstate 35 at 5:42 p.m.

A tractor-trailer had overturned on the northbound lanes of I-35. The weather was cloudy, and there was poor visibility on the road. Officer Vanerveer was attempting to reroute traffic off the highway and was placing flares on the road when she was hit.

She was transported to Harris Methodist Fort Worth, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day, which was her birthday.

Officer Vanderveer had served with the Burleson Police Department for over a year and previously served with the Tarrant County Community College Police Department. She was survived by her husband, son, daughter, and parents.
