Deputy Robertson was shot and killed while transporting two prisoners to jail for the theft of a tire. Deputy Robertson was driving the suspect's vehicle with the suspects in the back seat. During the drive the suspects kidnapped Deputy Robertson and murdered him. His body was found the next day.
Both 20-year-old suspects were apprehended a month later in Dallas. On June 19, 1941, both were convicted of murder and sentenced to 99 years. Both were paroled; one on March 19, 1952, and the other on December 24, 1952.
Deputy Robertson had been with the agency for eight years and was survived by his wife.
