Add to My HeroesHans-Peter Roelle
Trooper Hans-Peter Roelle was shot and killed following a pursuit of a suspect in Wasilla, Alaska.
The suspect had pushed his girlfriend out of a moving vehicle and then fled the scene when medical personnel and troopers arrived. A pursuit ensued and was called off as speeds exceeded 100 mph. Trooper Roelle and another trooper then proceeded to the suspect's home. As Trooper Roelle took cover behind a fence in the front yard, the suspect fired three shots, striking Trooper Roelle once in the head and killing him instantly. The shooter then murdered his two children before committing suicide.
Trooper Roelle had served with the Alaska State Troopers for 18 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.
The State of Alaska dedicated the weigh station on Glenn Highway in memory of Trooper Roelle as the Trooper Hans-Peter Roelle Memorial Scales Station. In 2008 the Alaska State Troopers named a new K9 Roelle in Trooper Roelle's honor.

Most Recent Reflection
View all 97 ReflectionsLeaves are turning, summer is fading fast. You mocked me for worrying about my tan fading and not embracing the season of great outdoors fun coming up. Always the funny guy. Thinking Amanda and I should have nailed you with a face wash of fresh snow just once! Some newbie from post would probably have run to arrest us! We loved working scenes with you. I just read that your nephew is following in your footsteps. May the Lord protect him and bless him with the gI11race and understanding that you possessed as a exemplary Alaska State Trooper. Andres Solorzano Jones, you have some big shoes to fill and I wish you all the best. You couldn't have picked a better Hero to emulate. You are now part of the best of our State's Law Enforcement Officers. Just think Hans, you truly let your footprint. Your story continues. No better reflection of the man you were in life.
