Police Officer Christopher James was shot and killed while working a uniformed off duty security job at a nightclub on Spangler Road with three other officers.
The officers had just kicked out several people following a fight inside the club. As one of the patrons was taken outside, he pulled out a handgun and shot two of the officers, fatally wounding Officer James. The other officers on the scene returned fire and apprehended the shooter.
The killer was sentenced to death in October 2002. He was executed by lethal injection on October 14, 2015.
Officer James had been employed with the Dallas Police Department for six years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

I had the privilege to care for a Corpus Christi Police Officer today (I am a medical provider) and, as is always the case when I visit with any officer, shared with him the unfortunate events of Nov 25th, 2001. I know the story all too well. I looked him in the eyes, shook his hand firmly and genuinely let him know that I appreciate what he does to keep us safe. Mr. James, I think of you often, pray for family and remain forever grateful that individuals like you continue to walk the face of this earth. For those of you that have or continue to put yourselves in harm's way, a look in the eyes, a firm hand shake and a genuine thank you. God Speed.
