Chief of Police Peter Redar succumbed to injuries suffered over two weeks earlier when his patrol car was struck by a semitrailer.
Chief Redar was returning from photographing a death scene and was stopped at an intersection when the semitrailer jack-knifed and struck his patrol car.
Chief Redar had served with the Schererville Police Department for 37 years. He was survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
