Federal Prohibition Agent Patrick Sharp died after being exposed to fumes in a room that contained an old still. He and four other agents had gone to a Texas farm and located the still behind a trap-door in a barn. The basement was filled with toxic fumes know as "black damp" which occurs when a hole in the ground has been sealed up. Officer Sharp was overcome by the fumes and died.
Officer Sharp had been in law enforcement for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and four children.
