Patrolman William Frederick was electrocuted when he attempted to move a live wire out of the way of pedestrians at 136 Littleton Avenue in Newark.
He was transported to the hospital, where he passed away.
Patrolman Frederick had served with the Newark Police Department for 20 years. He was survived by his wife and three sons.
