John Thomas Young

Town Sergeant John Young was killed when his patrol car was struck by a hit and run driver at the intersection of Routes 316 and 681.

The juvenile driver of the other vehicle ran a stop sign and struck Town Sergeant Young's car as he was driving north bound towards Parksley. The driver fled the scene on foot and was arrested at a nearby labor camp several hours later.

Another officer and a passenger riding with Town Sergeant Young were injured.

Town Sergeant Young had served as police chief for 7 years. He is survived by his sister, two brothers, and two nephews.
