Add to My HeroesShellie Eugene Lequire, Sr.
Policeman Shellie Lequire was shot and killed by a man seeking revenge against him.
On March 25, 1944, Policeman Lequire broke up a fight between the suspect and another man. The suspect went home, got his shotgun, and went looking for Policeman LeQuire. When the subject threatened him with his shotgun, Policeman Lequire attempted to arrest him, but the subject resisted arrest and was shot.
Three years later, the subject encountered Policeman Lequire inside a barber shop. After a few moments without speaking, the man suddenly pulled out a gun and shot him four times, killing him. As he walked out, he said, "well, I guess you won't be shooting anyone else."
The subject, 30, was arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life.
Policeman Lequire served with the Fleming-Neon Police Department and previously served with the Letcher County Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his wife and four children. He was preceded in death by one daughter.
