Donald Joshua Newman

Officer Donald Newman was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a head-on vehicle crash involving children.

His patrol car hydroplaned during a period of heavy rain and struck a utility pole on U.S. Highway 31.

Officer Newman was a United States Air Force Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and had served with the Jemison Police Department for just over two years. He is survived by his wife and 4-year-old son.

To a dedicated service member and law enforcement officer; but an even better human being. It was to my pleasure having known you during our time in Iraq, You were always the standard bearer, you made my life easy and it pains me to know that these words you will not hear. It is no surprise to me that your life was lost while in pursuit to render aid to someone else; that's the Josh I know and will always remember.
