Constable Mallory Williams was accidentally shot by other officers during a shootout behind 801 North Old Corry Field Road.
He had accompanied the county sheriff and two deputies to arrest a man wanted for stealing cigarettes. The man fled into the field and then opened fire on the officers. Constable Williams was caught in the crossfire and struck in the chest by a round fired by one of the deputies.
Constable Williams had served in law enforcement for eight years. He was survived by his wife, son, and six daughters.
