Motorcycle Officer Marlyn Reed succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier when he was involved in a motorcycle crash while attempting to stop a speeding vehicle.
Another car attempted to make a U-turn in front of him on the 9200 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Officer Reed's motorcycle struck the car, causing him to suffer fatal injuries. He was transported to Suburban Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Reed had served with the South Gate Police Department for over one year. Survivors include his wife and sister.
