Add to My HeroesCharles H. Torrance
Deputy Sheriff Charles Torrance succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained three days earlier as he attempted to arrest a man who had shot his neighbor.
The man barricaded himself in his house after the shooting. He opened fire as Deputy Torrance and a posse attempted to take him into custody. Three posse members were wounded, one seriously. The subject was also shot and seriously wounded. A month later his right arm was amputated. At his murder trial he said he said he thought the posse was a mob with no authority and his neighbor fired first. He was acquitted.
