Add to My HeroesJeffery Dean Ginn
Patrolman Jeffery Ginn was shot and killed after he responded to a disturbance call in which a man was burning marijuana leaves in a barbeque pit in his backyard at 1506 Pecan Drive.
Unbeknownst to Patrolman Ginn, the resident of the home was a mental patient who had made threats against the police department several times. As Patrolman Ginn approached the backyard while holding his radio the man saw him and opened fire with an M-1 carbine rifle.
Patrolman Ginn was struck several times in the side. He was able to crawl to a nearby tree in an attempt to seek cover. The suspect then walked up to Patrolman Ginn, disarmed him, and shot him point-blank in the head with his own service weapon.
The man then held a woman hostage for nearly 20 hours before committing suicide.
Patrolman Ginn had served with the Pasadena Police Department for eight years. He was survived by his wife, two children, and parents.

I wanted to write you this on the anniversary of your passing and have so much on my mind and wanted to tell you that I feel like you already know looking down. I always have felt a close connection between us through my uncle Kelly and really felt it when I found out we shared a birthday. I feel like I knew you when I first saw your photo 20 years ago Pasadena PD’s memorial website. I hate that we only shared time on this earth for approximately 7 months and wish our paths crossed. I hate too that you didn’t get a heads up about the suspect you were approaching and were warned about him. I feel like that is a major improvement that has been made today in law enforcement. In conclusion, I would have love to have met you and your family got to share some war stories with you and know what it was like being on patrol in the 1980’s in Pasadena. Rest in Peace Sir, I pray that you and I will meet someday.
