View all 143 ReflectionsI trained Caleb when he was first hired on with SCSO. Prior to that, he did at least 30 ride-a-longs with me. I knew from the start that he would make a great Deputy, and would be a great asset to our agency. He was a combat veteran, possessed great awareness, had a good personality, was always on time, very respectful and a devout family man. We got along very well, and shared many laughs in my cruiser.
A line of duty injury forced me into retirement, so I didn’t get to work the streets with him after he graduated Police Academy. But I did hear that he was doing well, and was a very active unit, working hard to keep his community safe. Then I heard the news that day. I wanted so bad to help him, but there was nothing that could be done.
This world lost a great man that day, Rachel lost her husband, their kids lost their Daddy, and I lost my friend. Rest easy my brother and I’ll see you on the other side!
