Patrolman Cardone was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting a Woodbridge police officer during a traffic stop on Route 1.

Patrolman Cardone had only served with the South Brunswick Police Department for six weeks and previously served with the Essex County Sheriff's Department for two years. He is survived by his mother, stepfather, father, sister, and fiancee.
