Park Policeman Daniel J. Carey succumbed to injuries sustained two days earlier when he was struck by an automobile at South Michigan Avenue and East 32nd Street in South Park.
Officer Carey stopped traffic to shoot an injured horse that had broken its leg. He was transported to the Michael Reese Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Carey was survived by his wife, son, three sisters, and three brothers.
