Deputy Claude succumbed to injuries sustained 17 months earlier when he was assaulted by an inmate in the county jail. He was struck in the head with a window weight and knocked down a flight of stairs. He was transported to a local hospital where he remained until his death.

Sweet uncle Raymond. Today you are getting honored in Jasper after 43 years. You were a giant among men and adored by many especially my mother Gina who you considered your grandchild. Your memory will live on as my mother speaks about you so much as if she just saw you yesterday. I never got the privilege to know you, but through her I know you so personally and love you so much. What an impression you made on not only your family, but people all across our country.
