Officer Richard Conklin was killed in a motorcycle accident near Georgia Avenue and Butternut Street, NW.
The wheels on the motorcycle struck a streetcar track and he was thrown from the bike.
Officer Conklin was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had served with the Metropolitan Police Department for 13 years and was assigned to the Sixth Precinct. He was survived by his wife. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
