George Douglas Althouse

Special Agent George Althouse was shot and killed in Inverness, Alabama, during a robbery attempt.

He had stopped at a convenience store in his undercover sports car when a suspect attempted to rob and carjack him. Special Agent Althouse was shot several times and was fatally wounded.

The suspect fled the state but was later captured by authorities. He was convicted of Agent Althouse's murder and sentenced to death.

Special Agent Althouse had served with the Drug Enforcement Administration for two years. He is survived by his parents and sister.

I knew Doug through an undercover officer with the sheriff’s department. I had just signed on with Doug when tragedy struck.
I can only say he was in high regard with the Sheriffs department.
In fact our mutual friend quit service following his demise.
His tragedy ended service of one of the best officers, that could have been.
My service ended as well.
You are missed.
