Deputy Constable Cox suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after being involved in a high speed pursuit. He and his partner were attempting to serve a writ of attachment when the suspect fled his residence in a car. The deputies chased the suspect for five miles before the man was stopped and arrested. As they drove the suspect to jail Deputy Constable Cox collapsed.
Deputy Constable Cox had previously served with the Texas Liquor Control Board.
