Deputy Marshal Buck Crews was accidentally shot and killed while en route to conduct a liquor raid near Panama City, Florida, with other officers.
He was riding in a boat across St. Andrews Bay when a rifle accidentally discharged, striking him in his side. He was returned to his home where he died on March 4, 1909.
Deputy Marshal Crews had served as a deputy marshal for several years and was assigned to the Holmes County District. He was survived by his wife and eight children.
