Officer Arthur Parga was shot and killed while assisting a countywide narcotics task force in serving a search warrant. He was on a SWAT team when they entered a house, and the owner confronted them shortly after 2 a.m.
Officer Parga was the first to enter the house. He was shot in the head and leg during the raid, which was part of an ongoing investigation into marijuana trafficking. The suspect was then shot by another officer.
Officer Parga served with the Stockton Police Department for more than three years and previously served with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office for five years. While working at the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Department, he led the investigation into a notorious local “freeway rapist” and was responsible for his arrest. View all 60 Reflections23 years ago today was the day the world changed forever. We miss you Art and know you are looking down on us and protecting us. You made the ultimate sacrifice. Your Niners were pretty close to going all the way this year and I was hoping to go watch them play in the Super Bowl at their home stadium. My family and I took part in a fundraiser for Fallen Officers in Stockton last year. You were the honorary officer for the race. Everyone had shirts with your picture on it and all the medals had your picture. It was a great event I reunited with your family and friends and we shared memories of you. I met your grand daughter, You are a grandpa! She was beautiful and I know you are protecting her and looking down on her. Love you and miss you! One day I will see you again!
