Patrolman Albert Eckart was killed after being thrown from the back of an ambulance at the intersection of Prospect Street and Harvard Street.
He was escorting a patient to the hospital during a snowstorm when the collision occurred.
Patrolman Eckart had been in law enforcement for nine years. He served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army during WWII, then returned to duty at the Cambridge Police Department. He was survived by his wife, parents, and several brothers.
