Trooper Bobby Booth was shot and killed while responding to a call of a man waving a gun north on US Highway 287 north of Stratford at 3 pm.

When Trooper Booth arrived at the scene, he became engaged in a struggle with the subject. The man was able to gain control of Trooper Booth's service weapon and shot him several times.

The suspect was charged with Trooper Booth's murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1994.

Trooper Booth had served with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Texas Highway Patrol for 6 years. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
