Roy William Freiss

Patrolman Roy Freiss was killed while directing traffic at the south end of the Smithfield Street Bridge when a drunk driver struck him and dragged him for over 100 feet.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the South Side Hospital.

Patrolman Freiss was a United States Army World War I veteran and had served with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for over eight years. He was survived by his wife and four children.

On today, the 90th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army as Military Policeman during World War I. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
