Police Officer Steve Gable was stabbed to death while attempting to arrest a man for public drunkeness. The man slit Officer Gable's throat and then started kicking him as he lay on the ground. The man, 35, turned himself in the next day and was charged with Officer Gable's murder.

The suspect, father of five, was convicted of second degree manslaughter and sentenced to four years.

Officer Gable, a former reformatory guard, was survived by his wife and eight children.
