Gene Leroy Goldsberry

Special Deputy Marshal Gene Goldsberry was shot and killed by a man about to be sentenced on drug and weapons charges at the Frank Carlson Federal Building in Topeka.

The suspect began firing when elevator doors opened to the federal court on the fourth floor. The suspect then blew himself up with pipe bombs that were strapped to his body.

Special Deputy Marshal Goldsberry was a United States Army veteran and had served with the United States Department of Justice - United States Marshals Service and retired from the Kansas Highway Patrol after serving for 25 years. He was survived by his wife, his stepdaughter, sister, and brother.
