Police Officer Christy Brondell-Hamilton was shot and killed after being ambushed by a juvenile boy armed with an AR-15 rifle near the intersection of Amestoy Avenue and Septo Street. The boy had just killed his father and called the police.

When Officer Brondell-Hamilton and her partner arrived at the scene they observed several screaming persons at the end of a cul-de-sac. The officers parked a short distance away to devise a tactical plan but unknowingly parked in front of the location where the boy had set up an ambush position.

The boy opened fire on Officer Brondell-Hamilton as she retrieved a radio from the patrol car. One of the rounds passed through the patrol car's window and struck her in the armhole of her vest, killing her. The boy then committed suicide.

Officer Brondell-Hamilton had graduated from the police academy two months earlier. She is survived by her two children, parents, brother, sister, nieces, and nephews.
