William Hayes

Officer William Hayes succumbed to a gunshot wound received the previous day while attempting to make an arrest.

The suspect was taken into custody and put in jail, but after Officer Hayes died of the wounds an angry mob of citizens took control of him and hung him.

Officer Hayes is burried in Highland Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Your heroiism and service is honored today, the 96th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
