Marshal Healea was shot and killed while questioning two suspicious men at a local gas station. During the questioning he called other nearby towns after growing more suspicious. He learned that the two were not being truthful and he returned to talk to them more. When he turned his back on one of the suspects the man produced a gun and shot him.
Both 19-year-old suspects, who had robbed a store, were apprehended. Both were convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 25 years.
